So don't sell something that you don't want to sell but sell something that you will be able to sell to someone out there.

This Week
Thanks everyone for your thought and effort on the food market presentations. I think everyone showed an understanding of markets and how these different enterprises fit into these markets. I think we also saw that each of these kinds of markets provide services that fall into more than one category.
We will talk more about presentations later in the semester.
For your Internet Auctions I would like you to form your own groups of three and bring me the names of the people in your group on Monday or post the names as a response to this post.
Also start thinking about who you would like to profile for the profile assignment. I will create these groups of two and you will choose what enterprise you would like to profile. However, each group will profile a different enterprise. So you need to tell me who you want to profile and the enterprises will be given on a first come, first serve basis.
Have a good weekend.

First Semester 2010-2011 Groups for Design in Business Presentation
Here are the group members and the location assignments for the presentations next week. The presentation is from 5 to 10 minutes long. You need to answer the following questions. You should shoot some pictures to support your answers to the questions.
a) Conscious use of Design to support the function of the shop.
b) Unconscious use of Design (Visual elements, standard elements, methods of presentation, layout...) to support the function of the shop.
c) Additional design that might improve the experience for the people who buy their food at the shop.
d) What is the economy that best fits the market and the way it operates...agrarian, industrial, service, experience
You need to think about the kind of people who come to the particular shop you are analyzing as you consider the role and opportunity for design within the store. These stores reach out to particular kinds of people and you need to think about who those people are before you can improve the ability of the shop to reach its customers and potential customers.
Quote for the week, "Forgiveness is easier to get than permission." Shoot pictures like tourists and try to be a bit subtle, particularly in City Super. If you ask permission to shoot pictures they will say NO! so just shoot pictures and be very apologetic if they say you aren't allowed to take pictures.

For additional information I have posted a PDF file from Tom Peters on "Design Mindfulness" that will give you some background on the importance of design in business. This can be accessed on the resource page.
